Hyun-Joong Chung (정현중; 鄭現中)

Hyun-Joong Chung is a Professor of chemical and materials engineering at the University of Alberta. His research centers on gels and elastomers, including those with functional additives and reinforcements, for applications such as sensors, actuators, smart textiles, and medical devices.

His key competence lies in his broad experiences in materials science both in academia and industry spans a wide range of hands-on experiences from polymer sciences to wearable biomedical devices, and then to microelectronics fabrication and device characterization.  Prior to his faculty position (U. Alberta, 2013-present), he fabricated stretchable bioelectronics for epidermal and cardiovascular applications (Post-doc @ U. Illinois, 2009-2012), contributed in developing prototype large-area OLED TVs by developing zinc oxide based thin film transistors (senior engineer @ Samsung Displays, 2006-2009), and studied on the role of jamming nanoparticles in phase-separating polymer blend films (PhD @ U. Pennsylvania, 2005). He has a bachelor’s degree in materials science and engineering (BSc @ KAIST, 2000)
